FDH Bank on Wednesday became the first company to make a donation of K1 million towards assistance of flood victims in Blantyre City.

FDH Chief Risk Officer, William Mpinganjira, said the bank is committed to supporting the government in ensuring that the lives of those affected by the floods are safe.

“FDH Bank have partnered in a campaign to ensure the provision of aid and safety measures to the people of Malawi who were directly affected by floods.

“As a home grown and home bred bank, we feel that we in particular have a duty in responding and assisting in addressing the matter, and as such FDH Bank shall extend its support towards aiding the very communities that made us what we are today,” said Mpinganjira.

He said the bank’s commitment to the people of Malawi goes beyond provision of banking services.

“We understand that we are, and will be operating in communities that have many challenges, but a disaster such as this one required our immediate action,” he said.

The Blantyre District Commissioner, Atananzio Chibwana, said FDH had offered a quick response after being approached which is a very recommendable thing.

He said, as a district, they need to look for alternative resources to start addressing the challenges being faced by the flood victims.

“The resources are not readily available and the government might concentrate on areas that are badly hit.

“At the moment, there is very little that is happening on the ground and we need to collect data first before we start assisting the people,” said Chibwana.

About 15 districts have been affected by the floods in the country.
