Lilongwe NGO to sponsor Mponda’s team
Peter Mponda’s new team is on the verge of landing sponsorship from a Lilongwe based non-governmental organisation that works in the agriculture sector.
While Mponda could not reveal the identity of the NGO, inside sources revealed that the club was holding talks with Foundation for Sustainable Irrigation and Development (Fisd).
Mponda confirmed yesterday that the club would finalise the sponsorship talks with the NGO today.
“It is big sponsorship and we are happy that it will help us motivate the players as we play in the Super League. The details of the name of the sponsor and the package will be made public soon,” he said.
Mponda, however, said the outstanding issue was the distribution of the team’s shares.
“We are yet to agree on who will own the club’s shares. Once we agree, we will be ready to announce the details of the sponsorship on Saturday. We do not want a repeat of the scenario like what happened with Surestream,” he said.
The club is therefore set to be named FISD Wizards.
Mponda was granted ownership of the club by former sponsors Surestream Petroleum Limited after it was established that he had registered the team in his name while operating as technical director for Surestream Academy.
He resigned from his position two weeks ago to run the team which has contributed two players to the senior national team and six players to the junior national team.
