Babatunde spent a season at Masters and his contract expired at the end of the season.

This could be a relief for the Nomads family after losing blossoming defender Precious Sambani to rivals Nyasa Big Bullets.

Wanderers Chairperson, Gift Mkandawire, confirmed that the deal has been agreed in principle.

“It is almost a done deal. He will be unveiled very soon and we are glad to have such a talented striker. We believe his quality will help us a lot next season as we want to win the TNM Super League and other cups,” Mkandawire said.

A well placed source at Masters said Babatunde would be joining the Nomads as a free agent.

“I am told that he has agreed personal terms with Wanderers. He has negotiated the deal on his own because he is a free agent,” said the source.

When contacted for more details Monday, Babatunde said: “I do not have anything to say on that.”

The lanky striker, who is a household name in domestic football, was named Masters Player of the 2018 Season for helping the team lift the Carlsberg Cup.

His strengths include dribbling and taking defenders head on but he lacks shooting skills in the final third.

At Wanderers, he will compete for places with Zicco Mkanda, Essau Kanyenda and Peter Wadabwa. Babatunde was also linked with a move to Bullets but the deal flopped.

Meanwhile, Wanderers have also written the Lilongwe-based outfit expressing interest in signing talented midfielder Francisco Mkonda.

Mkonda has been one of the most outstanding players for Masters in all competitions in the just ended season.

Masters General Secretary, Zachariah Nyirenda, confirmed receipt of the letter from Wanderers.

“Wanderers have officially written us expressing interest in signing Mkonda. We expect to meet within the week to decide on the matter because Mkonda has a running contract with us,” Nyirenda said.

Mkonda also confirmed the development.

“I am a Masters player and I do not know what will happen before the season starts. I am a footballer and I can play for any team as long as they offer me game time,” Mkonda said.

Mkonda won the Carlsberg Cup Discovery of the Year award after impressive performances in the competition where Masters overran both Bullets and Wanderers.
