1 dies, 8 others injured in Ntcheu road accident

By Pemphero Malimba:
One person died Tuesday while eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a road accident that involved four vehicles near Ntcheu old bus depot along the Dedza-Ntcheu stretch of the M1 Road.
Ntcheu Police Station spokesperson Rabecca Ndiwate said the incident happened as the driver— whose particulars were not advised at the time we went to press— of a truck, registration BJ 2227, who was heading towards Ntcheu from the direction of Dedza, hit a pedestrian.
Ndiwate said the pedestrian died.
“The truck hit other vehicles when it was in the process of overtaking another vehicle.
“The incident has resulted in one person dying and eight others, who were in the vehicles involved in the accident, getting injured,” Ndiwate said.
She has since identified the deceased as 41-year-old Happy Jackson of Mambala Village, Traditional Authority Kwataine, in the district.
“Those that have been injured are getting medical help at Ntcheu District Hospital,” she said.
Meanwhile, one of the Ntcheu residents, Mustafa Matola, has appealed to the authorities to construct a by-pass road to ease congestion at the Boma.
“The M1 Road at the Boma is one of the busiest roads in the country. Only a by-pass road would help ease the pressure,” he said.
