100 register for S and S chess
Over 100 players have registered to compete in S and S Geniuses Schools Chess Tournament set for St Andrews International High School in Blantyre Saturday.
Southern Region Chess League Chairperson, Wasoka Chirwa, said the day-long event will be played in categories of under-12 girls and boys. Senior students will also compete in both categories.
Promising players from the Southern Region are set to showcase their skills, whereas 11-year-old wonder-kid, Yebo Sanga, will test his mettle in the seniors’ category.
Prizes at stake include classic chess sets, recording books and medals.
The sponsors, Susan Namangale and Stanley Kenani, were once active chess players.
Kenani said he supports chess because it makes players great thinkers.
