11 countries for Malawi’s biggest boxing festival
No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions has partnered with Zimbabwe’s Delta Force Boxing Academy to promote Malawi’s biggest boxing bill which will feature boxers from 11 countries, including Brazil and China.
At the top of the bill set for September 26, Malawi Defence Force boxer Wilson Masamba is set to vie for World Boxing Union (WBU) featherweight belt while Charles Misanjo will challenge for World Professional Boxing Federation welterweight crown.
Other boxers are set to come from South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, DR Congo and Tanzania.
Under the theme ‘Fighters For The Great Cause’, the bill would be launched at Golden Peacock in Lilongwe on June 19 where all details including the pairing and names of boxers would be announced.
No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions managing director, Craig Rousseau, said it was a historic moment for the nation.
“We aren’t blowing our own trumpet but this is for real. We are bringing two world titles under one roof and we will launch the bill at Golden Peacock on June 19 where details surrounding the card would be disclosed,” he said.
The two stables plan to hold a gala night on July 31 to outline its objectives and interact with the corporate world.
“It’s time boxers fought for a particular cause. We thought of malaria because it remains the number one killer in Africa. It is therefore important to sensitize the nation through the boxers on how we can fight Malaria. We just need to knockout Malaria to avoid death,” he said.
Rousseau said they had sent invitations to the Minister of Sports Grace Chiumia, Minister of Health Jean Kalilani and the corporate world including banks, Toyota Malawi, Stansfield Motors, Mike Appel and Gatto, Airtel Malawi, Toyota CFAO, KIA, G4 and TNM among others to grace the launch.
“We are also sending invitation to the Vice President Right Honourable Saulos Chilima and other ministers including Atupele Muluzi. We will also invite the Army Commander and the Inspector General of Police,” he said.
Meanwhile, renowned American promoter, Don King, has been invited to grace the occasion. However, he is yet to confirm his availability.
No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions intends to sale to TV rights to local stations.
