11 volleyball players complete transfers
The Sempha Investments-sponsored Central Region Volleyball League was so busy last month as 16 players signed for new teams— just in the nick of time ahead of the new season.
Interestingly, 11 players switched teams in the ladies’ stream of the league with the rest being men.
In the men’s seven-member category, Daniel Kaludzu switched from Mipuniro Spikers to Spikers.
Lilongwe Spikers also lost Christopher Phiri and Hlahla Kwenda to Mipuniro Spikers.
Elsewhere, Blue Eagles’ Chisomo Chimbatata moved to Mipuniro Spikers, who too, lost Blessings Magombo to Kamuzu Barracks (KB).
In the ladies section, Kamuzu Barracks Ladies Volleyball Team signed Prisca Makhusu from Katoto Queens whereas Fanney Kanyenda joined from the same Northern Region team.
KB Ladies also signed Martha Zako from Moyale Queens whereas Blue Eagles’ Pauline Bwande and Jane Nyirenda switched to KB.
KB also bought Leah Mtende. However, there are no details on the actual transfer fees involved.
Another player Norah Zimba failed to complete her transfer from NRC Ladies Team to Snipers.
The league comprises men’s A and B divisions, youth divisions, ladies’ seniors and juniors divisions plus youth league.
The transfer window closed on Tuesday in the league which is considered the stronghold of domestic volleyball. Usually, it is only football transfers that hit headlines locally.
However, that is set to change with netball and volleyball transfers now visible.
