At least 12 coaches have applied for the vacant post of Civil Sporting Club assistant coach.
The position fell vacant after Oscar Kaunda quit Civil to join Be Forward Wanderers in a similar capacity two weeks ago.
Civil General Secretary, Ronald Chiwaula, said the club had received an overwhelming number of applications.
“We have just started the process but a lot of coaches have shown interest in the job. We are yet to short-list the coaches,” Chiwaula said.
National Coaches Association Executive Committee member, Millias Pofera, hailed Civil for appreciating the need to fill the gap created by Kaunda’s departure.
Pofera advised Civil to consult Head Coach Franco Ndawa when choosing his assistant.
“There are several highly qualified coaches who can fill the void left by Kaunda. But it would be good for Civil to give Ndawa a chance to choose his backroom staff,” said Pofera, who had a stint with Civil after he made a name at Dedza Young Soccer.
Civil face rivals Silver Strikers in a Lilongwe derby on Sunday in the TNM Super League.
The civil servants hope to bounce back, having suffered a 6-0 humiliating defeat to defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets and a 1-0 loss to Mighty Tigers last month.
Last season, Civil finished on position five with 42 points, behind Masters Security FC on goal-difference.
Civil have gone five consecutive years without winning a trophy, having last won the defunct Standard Bank Cup in 2015.
