14 cops die in line of duty

A total of 14 police officers died in the line of duty between 2017 and 2020.
This was disclosed at the National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe on Tuesday during a memorial service.
According to police, the officers died due to causes such as road accidents and riots.
Inspector General of Police George Kainja described the fallen cops as heroes.
He said the heroes were selfless and loved their work by sacrificing their lives for the sake of the nation at large.
Kainja said, although men and women in uniform may feel at times empty, helpless and unappreciated regardless of the dedication they render to the nation, they need to find comfort in the fact that God, who is ever faithful, will always reward their fidelity for the services rendered.
“Let us be united and ever committed to our services. I urge you to continue depending on God by being faithful to Him.
“We are all assured of our birth but not our departure to God; as such, the best option we currently have is to be vigilant all the time by being prayerful,” Kainja said.
The event was characterised by the laying of wreaths at the National Police Headquarters cenotaph and the sharing of scriptures.
