There will be fireworks today at 15 Sports Bar & Lounge in Blantyre to celebrate Malawi’s independence.
The entertainment joint will celebrate Malawian heritage to give families a chance to interact.
Co-owner of 15 Sports Bar & Lounge James Makunje Jnr said the country’s Independence Day is the best day to reflect on the country’s history.
“It is important to look at what we want to achieve in the next few years but we should start with celebrating our heritage. Once we accept who we are, the next step is to move forward and achieve our dreams. We should surely utilise the independence that we enjoy to make the country’s future bright,” he said.
The ‘Proudly Malawi Day’ is befitting the occasion because families rarely have the opportunity to celebrate together.
“We know that not everyone would manage to go to their home districts that is the reason we want to create an atmosphere that will give the patrons that feeling of being proudly Malawian,” he said.
Some of the activities are Gule wamkulu, Beni, clothing stalls, food stalls, cocktail stands and big fireworks display.
“We will have thobwa and other local foods which the patrons would enjoy. We promise huge fun on Independence Day and we believe a lot of people will come and celebrate with us,” he said.
