Some 153 athletes have registered for the 2016 TNM-sponsored Cape Maclear Triathlon in Mangochi District.
The two-day annual challenge will start on Friday.
Event Manager, Jam Kaunda, of Mizu Foundation said all was set for the event which has attracted participants from several sports disciplines.
“We expect more to come and participate in this year’s event.” he said about the events such as 2km Thumbi Island swim, cycling, volleyball, football, swimming and rowing.
Kaunda hailed TNM for the support which has enables the foundation to hold this event for a second successive year.
“As a non-governmental organisation, Mizu Foundation hopes to use this event to raise funds for charity for socio-economic interventions in poor communities,” he said.
TNM Public Relations and Sponsorship Manager, Limbani Nsapato, said by sponsoring the triathlon, they hope to help raise the profile of minority sports codes and promote tourism in Malawi.
“Triathlon is an Olympic sport. TNM would like to promote triathlon so that the country’s athletes start to take the sport seriously and improve Malawi’s record at the Olympics,” he said.
TNM has pumped in K11 million into the event.
