16 league games gross K34 million

A meagre K34,869,505 was realised in gate collections from 16 games of the TNM Super League in the first two weeks.

Defending champions Big Bullets and Mighty Be Forward Wanderers are top earners.

Wanderers and Bullets each earned K3, 475,250 and K2, 216,576 respectively in two weeks.

At the same stage last season, a total of K12, 095,300 was realised in gate collections but most of the games were at K200 for open stands while this season most of the games are at K1000.

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) treasurer Tiya Somba-Banda said despite the flaws in gate collections this season, the league governing body has registered 188 percent increase in revenues compared to last year at the same stage.

“There is a 188 percent increase in the collections compared to the K12 million of last year’s two weeks.

“In the first two weeks we have noted a number of challenges and flaws at the gates of which at an appropriate time we will do a press conference.

“We have noted serious syndicates which a r e being investigated and the perpetrators will soon be brought to justice,” said Somba-Banda.

During the first week of the TNM Super League, a gross of K20, 884,435.00 was collected in gate collection while in the second week a total of K13, 985,070.00 was realised from all the games.

The high profile match between Silver Strikers and Big Bullets at Civo Stadium two weeks ago, which grossed a total of K12, 007,940, is the only game that realised big chunk of money while the match between Airborne Rangers and Red Lions at Chitowe Stadium realised the lowest in gate collections at K102, 350.00.
