18 battle for Vale honours
The three-day Vale Logistics national volleyball tournament gets underway today at College of Medicine Sports Complex in Blantyre, with 18 teams battling for honours.
The men’s section will feature 10 teams with Thunders, Cobbe Barracks, Poly Troopers and College of Medicine representing the Southern Region.
Lilongwe Spikers, Blue Eagles and Mpuniro Spikers will represent the Central Region whereas Moyale Barracks, Moyale Troopers and Katoto Trickers will represent the Northern Region.
In the ladies’ section, the Southern Region will have Blazers, DMI, Gemz and Poly Aces as its ambassadors.
Moyale Barracks and Katoto Trickers will represent the Northern Region whereas Kamuzu Barracks and Blue Eagles are Central Region’s ambassadors.
Volleyball Association of Malawi General Secretary, Jairos Nkhoma, said they expect a great tournament as a lot is at stake.
“We believe the teams have had enough time to prepare for this tournament. We are expecting them to put up great performances as a way welcoming the new sponsors,” Nkhoma said.
The men’s champion will pocket K600,000 plus a floating golden trophy whereas the ladies winner will get a trophy and K500,000.
The runners up in the men’s section will receive K300,000 while the third-placed and fourth-placed sides will get K200,000 and K100,000, respectively.
In the ladies’ category, the runner-up will get K280,000, with the third-placed and fourth-placed sides pocketing K160,000 and K80,000, respectively.
