2 camps hit in Northern Region Football Association

Two factions have emerged in the Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) ahead of its elections slated for December this year.
Names of shadow committees flooded social media on Wednesday night, suggesting that current chairman Lameck Khonje will face his deputy Felix Mbonekera during the polls.
Vice chairman Basuteni Kiwombwe’s position is also not safe as businessman Alufeyo Chipanga is being earmarked to contest for the seat.
Incumbent general secretary Masiya Nyasulu is expected to face off with businessman Pickford Kamanga.
Chauka Mwansinga and Kaunda Patel have been linked with the treasurers, post battle.
Reacting to the development, Nyasulu said he was unmoved with the reports.
“These reports will always emerge because this is an election year. I am not moved and I believe our committee has done well. We will retain our positions,” Nyasulu said.
However, Mbonekera, who is reportedly leading another block, neither denied nor confirmed the development.
“I can’t say if I will contest. I wouldn’t say I will challenge my boss [Khonje],” he said.
However, when asked what he would do if elected as the association’s chairman, Mbonekera came out clear.
“I will make sure that we source sound sponsorship than the one we have now it pains me to operate with a small package,” Mbonekera said.
