Two Mozambican clubs have shown interest to sign Mighty Mukuru Wanderers attacking midfielder Yamikani Chester.

Chester is currently in Maputo, Mozambique trying his luck at Costa do Sol.

However, another Mozambican side Ferroviário de Nampula have offered him an outright deal to beef up the squad ahead of Caf Confederation Cup this year.

His manager Gift Mkandawire confirmed Tuesday that Chester is expected to be in Mozambique until February 20, 2023.

“Actually, there are two teams in Mozambique that have shown serious interest. For now, he is at Costa but Nampula are also keeping a close eye on what will happen during the trials,” Mkandawire said.

Chester has been included in Wanderers’ 25-member squad for the 2023 season, having agreed to extend his contract for three years recently.

When contacted Tuesday, Chester claimed he was in Mozambique for holiday.

“I am here to meet some friends. But I will let you know once everything has been finalised,” Chester said.

The two teams were impressed with Chester’s performance during the Chan qualifier against Mozambique in which the Flames were knocked out on away goal-rule after 1-1 draw.

Wanderers spokesperson Clement Stambuli was reluctant to comment on the matter.

“The best person to comment on the issue is his manager as he was influential in all the discussions we had,” Stambuli said.

If Chester clinches a deal with Costa, he will be the third Malawian to join the club after striker Richard Mbulu and midfielder Chikoti Chirwa.

Meanwhile, Silver Strikers forward Chawanangwa Kaonga has passed his medical with Zambian club Zanaco.

Zanaco will pay Silver $25,000 (about K25 million) for the striker, who scored 12 goals in the just ended TNM Super League.
