Food donation

Heifer International Malawi has launched a distribution exercise of relief items to people who were affected by heavy rains in Thyolo and Chiradzulu districts, targeting about 2,000 farming families.

Speaking during the launch at Traditional Authority Onga headquarters in Chiradzulu, the organisation’s country director Mwai Chitete expressed hope that the support will have a big difference to the people who were affected by the tropical storms.

“We believe that this assistance will help the people to rebuild their livelihoods. People in these two districts lost almost all their property so we believe that with this support they will be able to pick themselves up,” Chitete said.

Representing Chiradzulu Director of Planning and Development Tyness Chirwa hailed the organisation for considering reaching out to the people with the support.

The donated items included cooking oil, soap, beans and plastic sheets. The organisation has been working with smallholder dairy farmers in the two districts.
