3 arrested for operating brothel
Three men in Blantyre have been arrested for operating a brothel.
The arrests follow a tip off from a 16-year-old girl who said that she had refused to offer sex to two male clients after being forced to by her bosses.
According to Southern Region Police spokesperson, James Kadadzera, the girl (name withheld) was initially employed as a bartender at one of the bars after being falsely promised a housemaid job.
“The girl, who comes from Zomba, was then introduced to the brothel also owned by the three suspects, namely, Alinafe Makalani, aged 19 years, Evans Makwemba, aged 39 years and 33-year-old Isaac Manyozo.
“Her employers [the suspects] allegedly forced two clients on her but she defied odds rejecting them outright,” said Kadadzera.
She then reported to police who arrested the suspects.
The three will appear in court shortly to answer the charge of operating a brothel which is contrary to Section 146 of the Penal Code.
In another development, a 32-year-old woman in Machinjiri Township on Thursday died after a rock fell on her.
According to Kadadzera, the deceased, identified as Juliana Mambala, came from Mzonde Village in the area of Traditional Authority Nkanda in Mulanje District.
