3 boxers pummelled in Namibia

Three local boxers endured a bad outing after they suffered defeats during non-title international bouts in Namibia on Saturday.

In a six-round lightweight contest, Israel Kam’mwamba lost on unanimous decision to Lazarus Shaningwa of Namibia.

Kam’mwamba tried his best but could not contain Shaningwa, who was dominant with his jabs.

In another bout, Mussa Mkwanda suffered a fifth round technical knockout to Namibia’s Lucas Ndafoluma in a non-title middleweight clash.

Mkwanda struggled throughout the contest.

Earlier on, Limbani Chikapa could not match Namibia’s Harry Simon Jr, who defeated the Malawian through a second round technical knockout.

Matchmaker Steve ‘Mawenzi’ Msiska said local boxers have to intensify training even when they do not have fights.

“In most cases our boxers are caught unawares as they hardly train. If our boxers continue to train even in the absence of fights, they can be doing well when they get an offer at the eleventh hour. In this case, Israel’s fight was tight and could have gone either way,” he said.
