3 coaches join Flames camp

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has engaged the services of three local coaches to help Flames Head Coach, Ronny van Geneugden, in the camp training which commenced yesterday at Mpira Village in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre.

Civil Sporting Club’s Franco Ndawa, Meke Mwase of newly-promoted Kasungu-based TNM Super League side, TN Stars and National Coaches Association (NCA) Publicity Secretary, Aubrey Nankhuni, have joined van Geneugden’s panel.

Fam Vice President, James Mwenda, said Ndawa and Mwase will be deployed as assistants to van Geneugden while Nankhuni has, as Team Manager, replaced James Sangala, who is busy with studies.

Mwenda said the three will be with the Flames for 10 days as part of Fam’s implementation of plans to ensure that Super League coaches interact with van Geneugden during his tenure.

“We want [van] Geneugden to impart his football philosophy to as many Super League coaches as possible. We will take advantage of the off-season break to attach the coaches to van Geneugden,” he said, adding that Swadick Sanudi has been maintained as Goalkeeper sCoach.

NCA General Secretary, Dave Mpima, said his association will strategise on how best Fam can involve more Super League coaches with the Flames setup.

“We discussed with Fam the need for Super League coaches to be involved with the expatriate coach so that, when his contract expires, local coaches should have the capacity to carry on with his philosophy,” he said.

Mwase and Ndawa have replaced Gerald Phiri Senior and Derklerk Msakakuona who were working with the Belgian since last April. Msakakuona has rejoined Blue Eagles, while Phiri remains unattached.
