3 drivers jailed for endangering life

The Nkhotakota First Grade Magistrate’s Court on October 11 2016 sentenced three drivers to 14 months imprisonment with hard labour for endangering life.
Nkhotakota Police spokesperson Williams Kaponda said the three convicts, Emanuel Matumba, 26, Joseph Chakanyuka, 30, and Bakali Chapola, 28, were both arrested around Nkhotakota Trading Centre on October 10 2016.
He said the drivers were found carrying passengers on open motor vehicles.

The three were arrested by traffic police officers while doing the motor vehicle routine checks.
They were found to be in contravention of Section 237 of the Penal Code.
Kaponda said in September alone, Nkhotakota registered 37 accidents.
