3-nation basketball tourney on the cards
Basketball Association of Malawi (Basmal) wants to hold a three-nation tournament during this year’s Independence Day Celebrations.
Basmal President, Hamlet Kamtengeni, said the tournament was subject to the government’s confirmation.
“We rely heavily on government’s funding so we need blessings from the Malawi National Council of Sports before we formalise the invitations,” he said.
Basmal intends to invite Zambia and Zimbabwe teams.
If the two teams are unavailable, the invitations will be extended to other teams in Southern Africa.
Kamtengeni said the tournament would help local players gain international exposure.
Meanwhile, Kamtengeni has also announced that the newly-launched Wheelchair Basketball League will be included on Basmal’s calendar of events.
