3 people murdered over blood suckers
By Wezzie Gausi:

Three people have been murdered in cases related to blood-sucking stories making rounds in Mzimba and Chitipa districts.
National Police Public Relations Officer, James Kadadzera, said in the past four days, innocent people have been brutally murdered on suspicion that they were blood suckers.
“Subsequently, three people have lost their lives—two in Chitipa and one in Mzimba. As police, we condemn this barbaric act of mob justice; hence, anyone involved in the malpractice will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” Kadadzera said.
He said so far, 12 people have been arrested in relation to the murders.
“We request faith, traditional and political leaders to take an active role in stopping their people from engaging in acts of mob justice. For example, where the community suspects some persons to be blood suckers, the police should be immediately informed for proper inquiry,” Kadadzera said.
In 2017, the blood suckers issues resurfaced in the Southern Region and nobody was medically proven to have fallen victim.
In that year, nine people were killed on suspicion that they were blood suckers, prompting President Peter Mutharika to visit some of the hotspots and advise people against killing people based on hearsay.
In a statement that year, Society of Medical Doctors also condemned the lynching of the suspected blood suckers, saying there was no evidence that blood sucking was taking place attributing this to Shared Delusional Disorder.
