Kamuzu, Civo and MDC stadiums have been earmarked for the installation of electronic ticketing equipment from next season, Football Association of Malawi’s (Fam) Commercial and Marketing Director, Limbani Matola, has confirmed.
“We are at an advanced stage discussing with these stadiums’ managements. We will start installing the electronic gadgets in these stadia soon so that come next season, we should have them operational,” said Matola, adding that Civo’s management approached Fam to include them on the initial phase of the installation.
He added that the initiative was in a testing phase with some fans buying tickets electronically in selected places. It is expected that the system will curb gate ticketing fraud and reduce human error.
Fam is working hand in-hand with some banks on the e-ticketing, Matola said. Silver Strikers also hatched a similar e-ticketing project.
Super League of Malawi (Sulom) Treasurer, Tiya Somba-Banda, yesterday welcomed Fam’s initiative, but said he will comment further once briefed on how the association will roll it out.
In Tanzania, Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) reported that gate revenues fraud declined after the installation of e-ticketing systems. Malawi football has over the years been breeding due to gate fraud.
