A South African pilot and two Australian nationals who were flying from Lilongwe to Mzuzu have survived an aeroplane accident on the evening of Wednesday at an abandoned airfield at Nkhotakota Boma.

The accident, according to Nkhotakota Police Public Relations Officer, Williams Kaponda, occurred due to engine failure.

The aeroplane belongs to Ulendo Travelling Group that is based in South Africa and it is reported to have landed abruptly following its engine power failure.

The plane’s pilot Peter Bezudenmour told Nkhotakota Police who rushed to the scene that “we were flying from Lilongwe to Mzuzu when the engine suddenly stopped working a development that forced me to land unexpectedly at the nearest airfield.”

Kaponda said the pilot and the two Australian nationals, Jacques Discy and Melga Discy, survived the accident without injuries.

Meanwhile, police say they have been guarding the aeroplane from the time the accident was reported
