30 to attend Caf B coaching course

Thirty local coaches have been accorded the opportunity to upgrade their qualifications with a Caf B Coaching Licence course scheduled to take place before June.
The 30 have been drawn from a list of about 112 local coaches who qualify for the course. National Football Coaches Association General Secretary Davie Mpima said Confederation of African Football (Caf) had assured Football Association of Malawi (Fam) about the course. Mpima said the continental football governing body had set a limit of 30 coaches to attend the course.
“Our wish is to have more coaches attending the course. So we are doing our best to persuade Caf to allow at least 90 coaches to attend this course. Caf had communicated to our mother body Fam that this course will be held this year.
“We don’t know the exact date but it is before June. Yes we are happy with the development but we are not satisfied with the number of coaches that the course will accommodate. The number we have been given is too little considering the fact that we have many coaches waiting to obtain this licence,” he said.
Mpima said his association will propose to Fam that the course take place in Blantyre and Lilongwe so that more coaches benefit.
“We want the course to have 30 coaches attending in Blantyre and another 30 in Lilongwe. This will significantly reduce the number of coaches on the waiting list for this course. We do not like it that there are over 100 coaches on the waiting list,” Mpima said.
Some of the prominent local coaches expected to benefit from the course are Civil Service United’s Oscar Kaunda, Eliya Kananji of Blue Eagles and Peter Mponda of Nyasa Big Bullets.
