Police in Ntchisi have arrested 34-year-old, Justine Malondera, on allegations that he murdered 34-year-old Falioti Ponda by stabbing him.
According to Ntchisi police public relations officer, Gladson M’bumpha, the incident occurred on Monday May 30, at Nthesa Trading Centre in the district.
“Our investigation indicates that last Sunday the deceased went to the trading centre to pass time. While there, he started quarrelling with the suspect, later the deceased left for home but the suspect followed him and assaulted him on the abdomen, although he sustained an injury, he managed to walk home where he told his wife about the incident and later died the following Monday,” said M’bumpha.
M’bumpha added that post-mortem conducted at Ntchisi District Hospital revealed that he died due to severe anaemia secondary to a ruptured spleen.
The suspect is expected to appear before court to answer charges of murder.
Malondera hails from Chilasa village from the area of Traditional Authority Kalumo in the district.
Meanwhile, in Zomba, police have arrested three women who are suspected to have stolen assorted items at a superette in the city.
Zomba police publicist Patricia Sipiliano said the owner of the shop has been suspecting that some items were missing on the shelves and decided to track the suspects through CCTV cameras that are installed in the shop.
“The camera captured the three women stealing items and the owner reported the matter to police leading to the arrests of the suspect who admitted stealing from the shop items such as milk all valued at K64, 500.”
According to Sipiliano none of the women works for the shop but only came as customers.
