36 families along Zomba-Blantyre Road yet to be compensated
At least 36 families living along the Zomba-Blantyre Road are yet to be compensated after their houses were damaged or demolished when the road was under construction.
According to some of the affected families, although the National Roads Authority (NRA) recorded their names through the Zomba District Commissioner (DC’s) office, the Authority has not made any moves towards paying compensations.
Zomba DC Benet Nkasala confirmed having compiled names of 36 families to be compensated by NRA but denied reports that his office was not doing anything to help the victims.
He also said the role of his office is only to mediate between the affected families and NRA for a smooth compensation process.
Nkasala, however, said only those who constructed their houses within the required parameters from the road will be compensated.
NRA Public Relations Officer Portia Kajanga said some of the affected families already got their compensations through the DC’s office.
