40 register for Sparc tournament
Over 40 players have registered for the inaugural Sparc Systems National Junior Tennis Championship scheduled for Blantyre at the end of the month.
Lawn Tennis Association of Malawi (LTAM) General Secretary, Stanley Kaunda, said players from main tennis zones in the country have confirmed their participation.
LTAM has main structures at Blantyre Youth Centre, Malawi National Tennis Centre, Blantyre Sports Club, Zomba Gymkhana, Domasi Teachers College, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.
Kaunda said after the tournament, the association will rank its players in under-12, 14 and 16 categories for boys and girls.
“After this tournament, we will know our top seeds in several divisions for boys and girls,” he said.
Sparc Systems pumped in K1.5 million into the tournament.
Sparc Systems Managing Director, Wisely Phiri, said they supported junior tennis after being impressed with LTAM’s strategic plan.
