400 juniors in camp for Region 5 Games

Four hundred junior athletes from different sport codes have gone into camp in readiness for the 2022 African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Under 20 Youth Games slated for December 2 to 11 in Lilongwe.
Sports Council spokesperson Edgar Ntulumbwa said this is the first camping for Team Malawi ahead of the biennial championship.
“During the two weeks of camping, 247 athletes from different sporting codes will be selected to represent Team Malawi at the regional championship. The athletes will be camping at Sports Council premises, Malawi Post Corporation campus and Michiru View schools,” he said.
After the two weeks camping, the selected athletes will be engaged in residential camping where they will be monitored by their coaches, Malawi School Sports Association and Sports Council.
Athletes from 10 sport codes namely football, volleyball, netball, basketball, athletics, Para Olympics, lawn tennis, judo, taekwondo and boxing started camping on Sunday. The camp session is set to end on July 17.
Ntulumbwa also said camping for swimming will be held in July.
