5 arrested for Bolero arson

Police in the Northern Region have arrested five people suspected to have had a hand in the violence that has been happening at Bolero in Rumphi after the installation of Bongololo Gondwe as Themba la Mathemba Chikulamayembe 13.
Northern Region Police Public Relations Officer Maurice Chapola confirmed the arrest.
Chapola said two of the five suspects have been charged with malicious damage as the remaining three are answering two charges of malicious damage and arson.
“Soon after we noticed pockets of violence, we increased our officers at Bolero and the situation was controlled. However, later we noticed the arson and people damaging the property. This prompted us to go further with our investigations and last night, we raided some houses and managed to arrest five suspects who will appear before court soon after we finish our paperwork,” Chapola said.
Last week, some unknown people smashed a vehicle belonging to Deputy Minister of Health Enoch Phale and other vehicles belonging to some health officials from Rumphi District Hospital when they were coming from Mwazisi on an official visit.
Six houses were destroyed, property looted and some houses were set ablaze.
The suspects are Feston Sichali, Peyonce Msiska, Green Gondwe, Peter Kanyuka and Paul Mzumara.
