53 artists to feature at Art in the Park

The biannual Art in the Park, which gives a chance to visual artists in the country to showcase their artworks, returns on May 5 through to May 7 2023 at Four Seasons in Lilongwe with 53 artists set to participate.
One of the members of the organising team Nyangu Chodola, who is a veteran visual artist, said Tuesday that, having successfully held two events last year in May and November, it was time for this year’s episodes.
“We are starting the first event in May and it will run under the theme ‘Water’,” Chodola said.
He said they have included a few artists with disabilities and that they have increased the number of women artists participating.
“Female artists have been an encouragement and we have seen some of them prosper within the short period they have been exposed,” Chodola said.
Some of the female artists, who have made strides having made a number of participations at Art in the Park, include Evelyn Chisambiro, who in November brought a Sip and Drink concept, and Tapiwa Mlinga.
“As for persons with disabilities, we have also observed massive talent but many lack exposure and, so, we decided to give them a platform through Art in the Park,” Chodola said.
Apart from Chodola, Mlinga and Chisambiro, some of the artists who showcased their artworks in November last year included Charles Levison, James Tambula, Peter Chikondi, Chisomo Lifar, Cris Taulo, Andrew Missi, Maxwell Banda, George Laisi, Andy Nkosi and James Singano.
The festival has in past editions received support from European Union, Four Seasons, Wildlife Environmental Society of Malawi and Sunny Money.
