Youth Choir is a remarkable educational and social experience
Ahead of World Youth Choir auditions set for next month in Lilongwe, the country’s recruiter Dan Kauma has said only six have registered so far.
Kauma has called for more people, who have the talent of singing to come forward and participate so as to represent the country.
World Youth Choir brings together talented young singers and, to celebrate the 30th anniversary, the World Youth Choir will be held in France from mid-July to early August.
The session will be a unique experience for 60 singers from around the world.
Kauma said auditions in the country would be held on February 9 at Chiwoko School in Lilongwe.
“The World Youth Choir is a remarkable educational and social experience at the highest artistic level and targets talented young singers between the ages of 17 and 26 years from all over the world,” Kauma said.
He said the platform is unique for young singers to develop their musical and vocal talents by performing challenging repertoires and interacting with world-class conductors.
“Other people who approached me, apart from the six that have registered, were not able to read music. I am there to give assistance so it’s all open,” Kauma said.
He said the first phase is to check whether the people fit into the programme and that includes checking the age and capacity to read.
“They are given a song to practice and present on February 9 which shall be recorded live and then sent to the international jury to select the best 60 participants from all over the world,” he said.
