6 teams wind up first round
Six TNM Super League teams— MTV Max Bullets, Karonga United, Civo United, Red Lions, Kamuzu Barracks and Moyale Barracks— wound up their first round assignments over the weekend.
Ironically, bottom-placed Max Bullets finished on a high after registering their first win this season, beating Mafco 3-2 at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday, thanks to Pilirani Thomson and Frazer Menyani’s double that cancelled out Richard Mbulu and Joseph Donsa’s strikes for the visitors.
Max Bullets have seven points, three behind Dwangwa United, who also registered a rare win, when defeating 11th-placed Civo 2-1 in Lilongwe on Saturday.
In Mzuzu, Karonga also completed the round with a 2-1 win over the Lions for the rookies’ second win of the season to remain 14th with 11 points.
The Lions, who succumbed to Nangaunozge Luhanga’s brace, risk exiting the league as Malawi Defence Force authorities indicated recently that they will maintain three teams only in the top-flight league.
On Saturday, Kamuzu Barracks also completed their opening round games with a 1-2 loss to Be Forward Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium, where Peter Wadabwa scored both goals for the hosts. Karonga are eighth with 22 points.
