He thanked FDH Bank for the donation, saying it was timely and would help them host the event without challenges.

“We are grateful to FDH Bank for supporting us. We do not take this kind gesture for granted and we appeal to other companies to emulate the example,” Shycal added.

FDH Bank Head of Marketing and Communications, Levie Nkunika, said the bank is committed to promoting sports in the country.

“As a bank, we believe that golf is one of the sporting disciplines that give us a platform to interact with our customers. We want to be part of the success story as Malawi hosts this big golf event,” Nkunika said.

Malawi PGA has so far received monetary donations from companies such as Toyota Malawi, TNM, Airtel and Umodzi Park.

The donations have taken the total amount of money raised for the event to $45,000 [about K33.7 million].

The competition will attract top golfers from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, Botswana and hosts Malawi.

Zimbabwean top golfer Tongoona Charamba and Ryan Cairns have confirmed their participation in the event.

Malawi’s hopes for the show piece lie in seven professional golfers namely Paul Chidale, Victor Kachepatsonga, Adam Sailesi, Dingaan Chirwa, Kondwani Mphula, Gabriel Kambalame and Shycal.
