8 teams for GOtv Netball League
After a two year-wait, Northern Region netball teams will participate in the forthcoming GOtv Netball Champions League set to be launched on Thursday in Lilongwe.
MultiChoice Malawi, owners of GOtv, has also disclosed that eight teams will play in the competition following the inclusion of two teams from the North.
Lameck Queens and Mimosa Queens will represent the Northern Region, joining Civonets, Mafco, Blue Eagles Sisters, Mafco (Lilongwe), Kukoma Diamonds, Thunder Queens and defending champions, Complex Tigresses.
During the first two editions, the competition involved teams from Southern and Central regions. In the first tournament, the
South contributed three teams whereas the centre had two sides.
During the second season, both regions contributed three teams each following the late inclusion of Mafco.
MultiChoice marketing manager, Chimwemwe Nyirenda, confirmed the development, saying more details including sponsorship amount and format would be disclosed during the launch.
“Netball fans should brace for the top netball action as the Malawi’s top tournament GOtv Netball Champions League is back this time around much bigger and better!
“For the first time in the GOtv Netball Champions League history, the tournament will feature teams from Mzuzu bringing the tournament to all major cities where GOtv signal is at the moment,” he said.
The 2015 edition will throw off on October 16 at Katoto Secondary School in Mzuzu followed by the official opening ceremony at the same venue on October 17.
