9 arrested, items recovered in Zomba


Police in Zomba are keeping in custody a suspect, Alex Njaidi Banda and eight others for allegedly committing a series of breaking and theft offences in the district.
Zomba Police Public Relations Officer, Patricia Sipiliano, said the suspects were arrested on Sunday within the district.
“According to reports, Banda and his eight acomplices have been terrorising Zomba city and surrounding areas. Following the reports, we instituted investigations that led to the arrest of the nine suspects,” she said.
Sipiliano added that they suspect that the incidences happened during the month of May and June this year.
“We think that the suspects broke into several houses of different individuals within the city and went away with assorted items worthy millions,” she said.
The suspects, who were found in different places offering on sale the suspected stolen properties, are expected to appear before the court of law soon to answer breaking and theft charges.
Meanwhile, the items which include; three laptops, 5 plasma TV screens, home theater, 4 cell phones, Audianic subwoofer, two LG twitters and two speakers, have been recovered.
This comes barely a month after police in Zomba arrested other 6 suspects over the similar offences.
