9 die in Machinga road accident

The number of people who have died after a family car collided with a tanker in Machinga District on Wednesday has reached nine.
Machinga Police Station spokesperson, Davie Sulumba, has confirmed the development.
“The accident involved a tanker, registration number BN 6290 and driven by Joel Nsanama, and a Toyota Sienta, registration number KK 6980 and driven Kim Chimatilo. Chimatilo died on the spot and, now, the number of passengers who have died has reached night.
“The driver of the tanker was driving from the direction of Zomba towards Liwonde. Upon arrival in Ndaje Village, he saw a cruising motor vehicle coming from the opposite direction. The driver of the Sienta lost control of the vehicle and swerved to right side of the road, where he collided head-on with the tanker,” Sulumba said.
The bodies are being kept at Zomba Central Hospital mortuary.
The Sienta was extensively damaged while the tanker had its fender, bumper and headlamps damaged.
