Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) has said, in compliance with Malawi government new Covid-19 regulations, 90 people will physically attend the 2020/21 Miracle Night Crossover on December 31.
According to a press statement from the church, over one million people worldwide would be accommodated in an online conference through Zoom and what they call Major 1 Connect.
This comes a day after members of the Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 announced on Tuesday that all land borders in the country would be closed for 14 days while organisers of public gatherings would have to accommodate no more than 100 individuals.
“Church would like to inform its members, followers, partners and the general public on the development. ECG Church, just like its leader Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, is a compliant organisation. It believes in respecting the rule of law and, in the 47 countries where it operates, the church has an enviable record of being law-abiding,” the statement reads.
It further says the church understands that Covid-19 is a serious public health problem, which calls for concerted efforts between the church and the State.
Covid-19 Presidential Taskforce Co-Chairperson Khumbize Kandondo Chiponda said land borders would only be opened for essential services, deported Malawians and those who went out on business errands.
So far, since its emergence in Malawi in April last year, Covid-19 has killed 187 people.
The first known cases of Covid-19 were in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.
