First Lady Monica Chakwera has challenged cyber security professionals to leverage the potential of technological advancement for positive change through an inclusive and diverse cyber space.
Chakwera made the remarks Tuesday when she launched the Women and Girls in Cyber Conference in Lilongwe.
She said women and girls are victims of digital fraud and cyber bullying.
“Therefore, it is important that the conference should equip girls and women with the tools necessary for protecting themselves in the digital space and to protect communities from digital threats.
“Moving forward, we will ensure that more girls and women take up diverse roles and career paths, including cyber security, that the cyberspace provides,” Chakwera said.

Information and Digitalisation Minister Moses Kunkuyu said government will continue to provide a platform where women and girls are part of the national conversation to ensure that there is a safe cyber space for women in the country.
Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority Board Chairperson Stanley Khaila said the event was organised to empower women and girls to ensure their cyber security.
The conference was held under the theme ‘Bridging The Gender Gap and Breaking The Glass Ceiling’, with over 400 delegates in attendance.
