Abasi Makawa optimistic

MAKAWA—Things cannot just change overnight

Silver Strikers newly appointed coach, Abasi Makawa, hopes his charges would adapt quickly to his style of play and start winning matches.

Makawa has won once in four matches since taking over from Lovemore Fazili.

He started with a 1-1 draw with Blue Eagles in the TNM Super League second round opening fixture.

Later, Silver lost to Be Forward Wanderers 1-0 in Bingu Ikhome Bonanza opening match before beating Nyasa Big Bullets 1-0 to finish third in the two-day competition at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

On Sunday, Silver lost to Dwangwa United 1-0 in a Super League match at Chitowe Stadium in Nkhotakota District to remain stuck on fifth position with 29 points.

However, Makawa attributed the poor run of form to injuries and illness of some players.

“For sure, I haven’t started well but things can’t just change overnight. I need time. Against Dwangwa United, we did not have Khuda Muyaba and Duncan Nyoni, who were ill. Our attacker Thuso Paipi is nursing an injury but I hope that the team will do well in our forthcoming matches,” Makawa said.

This weekend, Silver face Mighty Tigers FC at Mulanje Park Stadium on Saturday then league leaders Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday.
