MKANDAWIRE— I will do my best

Malawi women’s national football team Coach, Abel Mkandawire, has settled for friendlies against male opposition in readiness for the Cosafa Women’s Championship set for South Africa later this month.

“It is a strategy we used when we were preparing for the matches against Mozambique and it worked. They say a winning team or formula does not change,” Mkandawire said.

Malawi booted out Mozambique on 14-1 aggregate, having won 11-1 at home and 3-0 away to reach the next stage of the qualifiers for 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The coach said they benefit from speed and strength when playing against male opposition.

“Even though we lose by huge margins, we get more benefits which work well for us when we meet our opponents,” he said.

Mkandawire said he was also pleased with players’ response to training.

Malawi were drawn in a tough group comprising defending champions South Africa, Comoros Islands and Madagascar at the championship scheduled for July 31 to August 11 2019 at Wolfson Stadium in Port Elizabeth.
