Renowned actor and playwright, Misheck Mzumara, who is also a drama lecturer at Mzuzu University, is expected to perform in United States of America (USA) in November this year.
Mzumara confirmed Wednesday about his performance schenduled for November 11 2019 at Virginia Tech State University, Blacksburg, Virginia.
“The performance venue is Blacbox Open Theatre 101 on the university campus,” he said.
Mzumara, who has starred in productions for groups such as Nanzikambe, said he will stage a play titled Tales of A Migrant written by Thokozani Kapiri.
Kapiri has also been instrumental in shaping the theatre industry in the country. He has written several plays.
“I am doing fresh rehearsals with him in preparations for the performance. I am happy that I will be performing at Virginia Tech which is amongst top universities in the world as far as the performing arts is concerned,” he said.
He said his performance is expected to be watched by students in the performing arts, professors and other people surrounding the campus as well as some Malawians living close to the campus.
Mzumara said he would be perform in USA courtesy of Professor Bob Leonard of the school of the performing arts.
“While there, I am also meeting professors in the performing arts department for a possibility of having different projects together. Mzuzu University is very supportive of this trip. I am also happy that a colleague, Amos Kaluwa, another Mzuzu University lecturer is doing his PhD at the university,” he said.
He said before leaving for USA, he will hold performances in the country as part of getting feedback from the audience so as to polish the play.
“This is my first performance in USA. I have had a number of performances in Africa and Europe,” Mzumara said.
