Adam Sailesi silences all to claim Malawi Open
Renown golfer, Adam Sailesi preserved his supremacy when he retained TNM Malawi Open golf championship held at Lilongwe Golf Club from Friday to Sunday.
After trailing his closest challenger, Victor Kachepatsonga, in the opening two days of the competition, Sailesi played some good round of golf on the last day to force play-offs after the two golfers were tied.
In the play-offs, Sailesi held his nerves to snatch the victory -his back-to-back. This year’s championship attracted 116 golfers from all golf clubs across the country.
Sailesi described his performance as one of the best ever in his career.
“It was not easy to defend it because all the golfers played well. But I was very composed on the golf course on the last day,” said Sailesi, who is also leading Malawi national golf team that left for Swaziland yesterday.
Kachepatsonga finished second, whereas Paul Chidale came third.
In the A Division, Kenneth Paul emerged the champion followed by Charles Mvula and Hassy Hamdan.
TNM also awarded senior golfers, with Stallard Mpata emerging the winner followed by Justin Mkandawire and Frank Mkandawire, respectively.
All the golfers received remarkable prizes, courtesy of TNM.
TNM Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Douglas Stevenson, described the competition as a success, while also promising that 2017 edition of the competition would be the best.
“This year, we have work to develop golf at the grassroots for ladies so that we are at par with other countries,” he said.
TNM also sponsors the country’s top-flight football league—TNM Super League.
