Kenyani boxer Joyce Awino arrived on Tuesday ahead of the non-title bill against local female pugilist Agness Mtimaukanena-Mwando set for Friday at Robins Park in Blantyre.

Both boxers appeared nervous but were bold enough to outline their intent before the contest.

Mtimaukanena-Mwando said she would use the fight as a stepping stone to challenge one of the top boxers in Zambia.

“I have had impressive preparations under the guidance of my husband Brian. I know I will win because we have finalised everything that we planned to do. I want to win impressively so that I should challenge one of top boxers in Zambia who is well known in the world,” said the former World Boxing Forum welterweight champion.

Awino said she was not in Malawi for sightseeing neither did she come for modeling.

“I am here to fight and not just fight, but win. I have nothing to do with your country. I am here to fight. My trainer James Onyango has supported me very well,” he said.

Mtimaukanena, 23, has fought eight times winning five fights, drawing once and losing twice while Awino, 26, has fought five times winning thrice and losing twice.

Alufandika Boxing Promotions is promoting the bill having engaged unlicensed match-maker Steve Mawenzi Msiska.

This is the second fight for Mtimaukanena since her return from maternity break. In the first fight, she won on unanimous decision against Tanzanian boxer Amina Mohammed.
