Agricultural Trading Company slashes prices for chemicals

AHL Group’s agricultural trading business—Agricultural Trading Company (ATC)—has said its network of shops countrywide has pesticides for dealing with armyworms that have attacked maize fields.

ATC Marketing Manager, Maxwell Ng’ambi, said in an interview that his brand is poised to support farmers who are experiencing armyworms, especially in maize fields.

Ng’ambi was reacting to reports of armyworms and stalk borer outbreak in some parts of the country as recently reported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development.

“We do have pesticides and various chemicals that can halt the spread of armyworms and stalk borer outbreaks,” he said.

According to Ng’ambi, ATC has different types of effective pesticides and in some instances their well trained staff will advise farmers on how to use the chemicals as well.

“We are encouraging farmers generally and estate owners to visit any of our 17 shops countrywide and explain the problem to our sales team. They are equipped to advise the best pesticide to use, we have different pesticides for armyworms, stalk borers and so in our shops,” Ng’ambi said.

Ng’ambi said that pesticides are used to control weeds, outbreaks of locusts, green edible grasshoppers and army worms, as well as weevils on stored maize, maize grain borers and gray leaf spot in the fields, citrus flies, and tomatoes red spot mites, among others.

In an interview, Ng’ambi also disclosed that that ATC has reduced prices of various pesticides and related products to help farmers afford the products at this critical hour.

“Given the situation on the ground, we have reduced prices of chemicals and farm inputs, in some cases even by 40 percent to allow farmers to afford the products,” he said.

He explained that ATC has pesticides for use in banana, tea, sugar cane, coffee, vegetables, tobacco, maize, legumes and many other crops for maximum yields.

He said that the health of crops is their business and prices have been reduced on both retail and wholesale fronts. “We encourage customers not to despair but visit our shops and get assisted,” he said.

He said that ATC as a brand has been in operation for over 50 years, adding that they are the only agro dealing company that understands farmers very well and is a one stop shop for agricultural related products.
