The AHL Group on Wednesday hosted tobacco growers to a workshop in Blantyre aimed at creating a platform for stakeholders to discuss HIV and Aids issues affecting the tobacco industry.

The meeting was part of a series of annual seminars AHL Group has been organising for the farmers as part of implementation of its HIV and Aids workplace policy launched in 2010.

AHL Group HIV and Aids Coordinator, Leonard Chakwawa, said the policy does not only cater for employees of the company but also extends to external mainstreaming of HIV and Aids issues.

He said since AHL Group rolled out the policy, a lot of farmers, transporters, buyers and graders have been reached with HIV and Aids prevention campaigns.

Chakwawa said the initiative is aimed at curbing the further spread of the virus as well as preventing new infections.
