Airtel blocks suspicious calls
Airtel Malawi has said it has blocked some of the international phone numbers that have been making calls to some of its subscribers.
The calls subscribers are receiving are believed to be originating from the Middle Eastern countries such as Syria.
Airtel Public Relations Officer, Norah Chavula-Chirwa, said Thursday that the company is aware of the development and the subscribers should not worry because everything is under control.
“We have already taken measures to block some numbers. So far, so good,” Chavula-Chirwa said
The unknown calls with international digits are not being answered as the line is cut within seconds when one tries to answer.
The mobile phone company has embarked on the cautioning exercise to ensure that its customers tread carefully when they receive such calls.
“Missed calls from unknown international numbers may be fraudulent. Returning these calls will unnecessarily consume your airtime. Please exercise caution,” the message to subscribers reads.
