Airtel challenges Nam
Airtel Malawi has challenged Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) to this year break the record of participating teams set during the inaugural season of Airtel Money national netball trophy.
Close to 1,000 teams participated in the first season in 2013, but the second edition drew 600 teams. This year’s competition is expected to be launched Saturday in Salima.
Airtel Money marketing manager, Tione Kafumbu, said they were encouraging teams to strive to reach the finals of the tournament, whose holders are Tigresses.
“This is their chance to shine. With this being the final season of the Airtel Money national netball trophy we would definitely want to have as many teams as possible enter the tournament,” he said.
Kafumbu said they will also reward outstanding teams, umpires and reporters to make the event thrilling.
“People should also expect an exciting game between Mafco Soldiers and Salima Select. We urge people in Salima to make sure they don’t miss this exciting event,” he said.
Nam general secretary, Carol Bapu, said all was set for the tournament launched in 2013 to the tune of K360 million, with K70 million earmarked for the national trophy annually, and K28 million for the Queens.
