Airtel donates to Mzuzu, Karonga flood victims
Airtel Malawi has donated assorted relief items worth about K5 million to flood victims in Karonga and Mzuzu as one way of fulfilling its corporate social responsibility.
Speaking during the presentation event in Mzuzu on Monday, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager Norah Chavula said the recent devastation in the two places is equally disturbing to her company because among the affected are their loyal clients.
She further said as a caring brand, the gesture on the other hand serves to underline the company’s solidarity with the people of Malawi, government and other stakeholders during times of trouble.
“We are here to cushion the loss suffered by victims of the calamity that has befallen the nation. We hope that this donation conveys our deepest concern and sympathy with the people of Mzuzu and Karonga.
“Airtel Malawi can assure you that it stands with you and people of Malawi during this difficult period as you continue the hard task of restoring the damage caused and I hope this will reinstate the strength, courage and hope in all those affected,” Chavula said.
She then appealed to other stakeholders to reach out to the suffering households in order to make a difference in their lives.
Mayor for Mzuzu William Mkandawire thanked Airtel for the timely response and further appealed for more support as the number of victims continues to rise.
The items donated include maize flour, blankets, soya pieces, sugar and cooking oil among others
