Airtel, FMB partner in digital money transfers

Airtel Malawi on Wednesday signed an agreement with FMB which will see Airtel Money customers cashing out on the bank’s auto teller machines.

The partnership will also allow customers to transfer money from their mobile wallet to a bank account and vice versa.

Airtel Malawi Managing Director, Charles Kamoto, said, as an innovative company, they continue to make strides and be in the forefront of the financial inclusion agenda through the provision of mobile-oriented financial services that are safe, secure and convenient for Malawi’s both banked and unbanked masses.

“FMB will offer our mobile money customers’ access to their 66 ATM’s countrywide with 24hour access while Airtel Money will offer FMB customers similar access to extended banking hours via our robust mobile money infrastructure of 15,000 plus agents countrywide.

“So anywhere you are in the country, the FMB ATMs and our Airtel Money agents will be there to serve you,” Kamoto said.

FMB Chief Executive Officer, Fernando Rodrigues, said that the partnership is in line with the government’s recognition that a more inclusive financial system is critical to the development of the country’s economy.

He said the bank continues to implement relevant measures in line with government efforts to expand the reach of financial services to people within the country.

“Innovation and supreme service are at the core of FMB, we intend to continue with this trajectory of ‘firsts’ as it creates value for both customers and shareholders.

“We are working on something and very soon, we will be inviting you to launch yet another milestone in our partnership with Airtel,” Rodrigues said.
